Your Local Bird Rock Registered Dietitian!

Hello!

I am your local Bird Rock Registered Dietitian specializing in Pediatric and Family Nutrition and, more specifically, family interactions at meal times.

I was born and raised in Bird Rock and attended the La Jolla United Methodist Church Nursery School, Bird Rock Elementary, Muirlands Middle School, and The Bishop’s School. In fact, working at the La Jolla United Methodist Nursery School was my first summer job.

I received my Undergraduate Degree from Claremont McKenna College in Economics and my Master’s Degree from San Diego State University in Nutritional Sciences. I then completed a Dietetic Internship through Iowa State University to become a Registered Dietitian.

I am  a Registered Dietitian and a member of the American Dietetic Association, California Dietetic AssociationSan Diego Dietetic Association, and the Nutrition Entrepreneurs. I have always been passionate about health, fitness, and nutrition and my services will offer you unending support, guidance, and friendship through a journey of healthy change.

Family Interactions at Meal Times

I help families achieve enjoyable family meals free of stress and pressure using Ellyn Satter’s Division of Responsibility, a research proven method of feeding children in a way that lets them grow to become healthy, eating-competent adults.

Nutrition Classes for Kids and Teens

Research continues to emphasize the importance of early childhood nutrition. With better nutrition, kids do better in school, have healthier relationships with food, achieve a healthier body weight for their body type, are less likely to become overweight or obese adults, and are less likely to experience nutrition related health issues like type 2 diabetes. While “better nutrition” does mean eating more fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and healthy carbohydrates, it does not mean that meals have to be a battle between you and your kids. I can help your kids learn to try new things and I can help you learn how to promote that behavior. Meal times can promote better nutrition AND be enjoyable at the same time!

I believe that learning about nutrition should be fun and interactive. It should feel like an exciting science experiment. It should inspire your kids to learn more on their own. It should inspire them to try new things. It should inspire them to get in the kitchen with you and create something. It should inspire them to go the grocery store or farmers market with you and point out new products they want to try.

Sign your kids up for one of my classes. Your kids will not only learn about nutrition but they will ENJOY learning about nutrition. Click on the flyer to the right for details.

Please feel free to contact me any time!

Healthiest Regards,

Paula Ryan MS, RD
